1º GUORS Meeting of 2018 – Review

Hey all!
Long time I want to write this review because it was a great event!

It was mostly for local users (up to 200km around) and got some interesting sessions. A quick summary:

  1. O novo DBA, change or die! (the new dba, change or die): A very nice catch by Felipe Rache (Oracle). We could discuss there some about the new challenges for DBAs and some alternatives to fit in what is going to happen next (just around the corner). We got some examples about connectors and non-structured data manipulating from Oracle perspective.
  2. EBS Upgrade 12.2 – Lessons learned from DBA Team: Another great discussion, now conducted by Gustavo Tourinho (DELL) about some challenges when planning big changes with big teams for big environments. We discussed mostly the role DBAs, Sysadmins, Support Engineers and Devs should play and how to improve those processes.
  3. Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud 101: This was my session, basically covering all that was released and discussed about Autonomous Database so far. This is a very recent tool with not much material, so I played the role of the curious DBA looking for more info and tried to bring that and share with my friends. 🙂

I just hope everyone who was there enjoyed that much as I did to be there, share experiences and make new contacts.

Guru99: PL/SQL 101 Completely Free!

Hey all!
Just passing by today to share something I found really inetresting, and the best: it’s all free!
Do you know Guru99?

It’s a preety nice repository with lots of free tutorials and guides for PLSQL, SQL and several other languages, plus some other IT-related knowledge, like Big Data, PMP and etc.

It’s not rare to have people asking me “How to Start learning SQL” or saying “All material (including grepora :D) is too much specific, we don’t have good general documentation”.
Even Oracle having a pretty nice documentation on the products and features, general concepts are usually forgotten. Aaaaand, now I have something to link on those cases! 😀

Having a look on Guru99, First I found this guide PL/SQL First Program: Hello World, including detailed steps on:
– How to access SQL* Plus
– Connecting to Database
– How to write a simple program using PL/SQL
– Declaring and usage of variables in program
– Commenting Codes

Then found an entire category PL/SQL Tutorials. Talking to Alex (Editor), seems over 120 hours were spent on it. And they were well spent, the material is really very easy to read and understand. Chapters on this Course are:
1. Introduction to PL/SQL
2. Blocks in PL/SQL
3. PL SQL First Program: Hello World
4. PL/SQL Data Types
5. Complex Data Types in PL/SQL
6. PL/SQL Decision Making Statements
7. Loops in PL/SQL
8. Subprograms: Procedures and Functions in PL/SQL
9. Exception Handling in PL/SQL
10. SQL in PL/SQL
11. Packages in PL/SQL
12. Triggers in PL/SQL
13. Object Types in PL/SQL
14. Dynamic SQL in PL/SQL
15. Nested Blocks in Pl/Sql
16. PL/SQL Identifiers

Oracle ACE Program

Hello all!
I’m glad share I got nominated as Oracle ACE Associate!
Here is the Link for my profile in the ACE Directory.

But what is an Oracle ACE?

The Oracle ACE Program is designed to recognize and reward members of the Oracle Technology and Applications communities for their contributions. These individuals are technically proficient and willingly share their knowledge and experiences through presentations, blog posts, articles, social media posts, community forum support and more.

This way, we have 3 levels of (active) Oracle ACEs:
ACE Associate: The entry level, where I am right now.
ACE: Proficient Community Advocate.
ACE Director: Expert Community Advocate.

I got nominated in 3 Expertises: Database Management & Performance, Cloud, MySQL.

As additional info: Seems I’m the youngest ACE in Brazil and I’m also the only Brazilian ACE with Cloud Expertise.

So, for now on, you’ll see the following logo as a badge in our right menu:

Thank you for all your support and for keeping me motivated to share and learn together all this time!
