DB-Oracle 19c Hands-On Experience: Pluggable Databases are Risen from the Dead

Join ODTUG and Viscosity for a hands-on virtual class on Oracle Database 19c.

We have a limited number of user IDs available for the hands-on lab, so be sure to register quickly as a “Hands-On Participant” or for the HOL Waiting List.

Registration is unlimited for those interested in View and Listen only mode.

In this two hour class, students will learn the fundamentals to managing the new frontier of pluggable databases. Each student will be assigned 2 VMs to configure PDBs and work labs.

With the recent announcement at Oracle OpenWorld, starting in Oracle Database 19c, we are allowed to have up to 3 pluggable databases per container database. Effective Oracle Database 20c, non-containerized databases will no longer be supported. As an attendee of this session, you will receive a free copy of the PDB Me to Oracle Cloud book written by Oracle ACEs. Come learn what it takes to effectively create, configure, manage and monitor Oracle PDBs while learning all the latest and greatest new features of Oracle PDBs from Oracle 12.2/18c/19c.

Oracle database upgrades often lead to performance related issues. This is due to the number of underlying technical changes in software, introduction of new features, and general enhancement of the products. With many 19c upgrades going on, it’s good to know how to use the many technical features in Oracle for dealing with or even eliminating performance issue.

In this lab we will go through some of the basic skills that every DBA should have around performance tuning from enhance explain plans and gathering statistics to using SQL Plan Management. We will also cover the differences between SQL Baselines and SQL profiles. This session should be good if you are an experienced DBA just brushing up on your skills, or new to using Oracle database performance tuning tools.

EPM Webinar – Configuring Workforce: Employee? Job? Or Both?

From: https://www.odtug.com/p/ca/vi/sid=703

An out-of-the-box Workforce module allows companies to plan for labor related expenses and integrate with other modules such as financials. Workforce provides options to enable expense planning, headcount planning, and workforce management. But first you need to determine the granularity at which to plan your Workforce: Employee only, job only, or employee and job?

In this webinar, we will take a deeper dive into those three levels of granularity and what the implications are for each. We will also review the most important enablement and configuration processes for the Workforce module.

Analytics Webinar: Secure and Flexible Oracle Analytics on Any Data by Integrating Autonomous Databa

From: https://www.odtug.com/p/ca/vi/sid=693

Nowadays we need to run analytics on all kinds of data. This includes flexible formats and semi-structured data from data lakes as well as curated data from relational databases. A great way to access these different types of data sets and sources with Oracle Analytics is by integrating a flexible, scalable (object) storage layer with the powerful Oracle database engine. This works especially well in the cloud, using OAC on top of the Autonomous Data Warehouse service. The key to all of this is the clever use of (partitioned) Oracle External Tables. In this presentation we will discuss the integration of OAC, ADB, and Object Storage from an architecture point of view, as well as the technical implementation. Demos will show the elegance of the approach, the great performance, and its security benefits.
