THE LAYERS OF YOUR IT INFRASTRUCTURE: CAN YOU SUPPORT YOUR EOL SYSTEMS & HOW?

June 29 @ 11:30 - 12:30

Customized and often proprietary applications serve as a mission-critical function in an organization’s IT infrastructure. However, these applications present unique challenges. They are often written to run on specific operating systems (OS) and hardware platforms and are difficult to port and migrate.

As the underlying OS and host hardware ages, IT Departments face an increased risk of downtime as spare parts become difficult to source and their in-house technical support staff either retire or move on to other employment.

As the sun sets on Solaris and SPARC, the Unix OS and RISC processor, IT Directors and Managers are tasked with (a) ensuring their application’s underlying OS is properly supported, and (b) any risks associated with aging hardware that lead to unplanned downtime are mitigated.

In order to maintain uptime and availability of the application, how do you support each layer of your infrastructure if both the OS and hardware are at (or approaching) end-of-life, without making any significant changes to your application or business processes?

Learning Objectives:
Understand the layers of infrastructure and where there is a gap in support as well as the overall drain it has on your infrastructure.
How you can maintain support for your end-of-life operating systems, mitigate perceived security vulnerabilities and meet audit requirements while modernizing your infrastructure.
